Description
The Chikungunya IgG/IgM Rapid Test Kit is a high-sensitivity, lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection and differentiation of IgG and IgM antibodies to the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) in human whole blood, serum, or plasma.
As Chikungunya symptoms—such as high fever, severe joint pain (arthralgia), and rash—closely mimic those of Dengue and Zika, this rapid diagnostic test (RDT) is an essential tool for differential diagnosis. By detecting both IgG and IgM, healthcare providers can distinguish between a primary acute infection and a secondary or past exposure, ensuring patients receive the correct management plan immediately.
Why Dual Antibody Detection (IgG/IgM) Matters
This kit provides a complete serological profile on a single test strip:
- IgM (Immunoglobulin M): Typically detectable 3–7 days after the onset of symptoms. A positive IgM result indicates an active or very recent infection.
- IgG (Immunoglobulin G): Usually develops towards the end of the first week or shortly after IgM. A positive IgG result indicates a past infection or the transition into the convalescent phase, providing long-term immunity information.
Key Features and Performance
Rapid Results: Get clear, easy-to-read visual results in just 15–20 minutes.
- High Diagnostic Accuracy: Engineered with recombinant antigens to ensure high sensitivity ($>90\%$) and specificity, minimizing the risk of cross-reactivity with other flaviviruses.
- Sample Versatility: Validated for use with Fingerstick Whole Blood, Venous Whole Blood, Serum, or Plasma.
- Complete Kit: Each of the 5 kits includes everything needed for the test: Cassette, Dropper, Buffer, and Lancet/Alcohol Swab (if applicable).
- Preparation: Bring the foil pouch to room temperature before opening. Remove the test cassette and place it on a flat, clean surface.
- Sample Collection: Using the provided dropper, collect $5\text{µl}$ of serum/plasma or $10\text{µl}$ of whole blood.
- Loading: Dispense the sample into the “S” (Sample) well.
- Buffer Addition: Immediately add 2–3 drops of the assay buffer to the sample well.
- Timing: Start your timer and read the results at 15 minutes.
- Long Shelf Life: Stable at room temperature 2°C to 30°C for up to 24 months.
Step-by-Step Test Procedure
Interpretation of Results
- IgM Positive: Two lines appear—one at Control (C) and one at IgM (M). This indicates an acute/recent Chikungunya infection.
- IgG Positive: Two lines appear—one at Control (C) and one at IgG (G). This suggests a previous exposure or late-stage infection.
- IgG & IgM Positive: Three lines appear (C, G, and M). This indicates a current infection in a patient who may have had previous exposure or is in the mid-recovery phase.
- Negative: Only one line appears at the Control (C) position.
- Invalid: If no line appears at the Control (C) position, the test is invalid regardless of the test lines.
